How Can Video Tutorials Help Your Business?

When you want to learn how to do something, what do you do? That’s right, you go to YouTube. How-To or tutorial videos have become the way people learn how to do anything these days. So why is having tutorial videos important for your business? That is what we will check in today’s Video Lion.

When we think about growing a business, we immediately think about reaching more people and doing more sales – and that is still correct, but what about customer retention and satisfaction? Isn’t that an important factor as well? That is where having great tutorial videos comes into play.

Onboarding new customers is an essential part of any business. You want them to learn how to use your platform, or your product, or to know your process. But above all, you want them to have a good experience. The way you onboard is crucial, and many times it will determine if a client will continue working with you and, even more important, refer your services to someone else.

Research done by Wyzowl in 2020 shows that 86% of people say they’d be more likely to stay loyal to a business that invests in onboarding content that welcomes and educates them.  Regarding vide content, 97% of people think that video is an effective tool to welcome and educate new customers and 65% of customers say video is their favorite way to get to know how to use a product or service.

So it seems that video tutorials are more than a “nice to have” for a business, but an essential tool to retain and grow your customer base. Having that in mind, it is important to put some thought and planning into creating these videos. As much as they may usually cover technical issues, it is important to make them engaging. Remember two important points: you want your customer to LEARN, and you also want them to ENJOY the experience.

So, make sure your video tutorials look and sound good. Here are a few tips to help you:

  1. Create a script

Don’t “wing it”. Write it as a script and try to make it as short and clear as possible. You don’t want your tutorial to be long or confusing.

  • Shoot it properly

If your tutorial involves a physical demonstration, make sure to shoot it properly, with good lighting and good audio. Give close-ups to details that are important. Even if most of the video is a screen capture of an online platform or a piece of software being used, you should do that screen capturing on the highest resolution possible, and of course, follow your script.

  • Edit it

One of the worst things in a tutorial is when the viewer has to wait for the person demonstrating to open a new window, or manage something that is not working as it should. It is a waste of time and it looks unprofessional. So edit it down.

  • Use graphic aids

Use titles, arrows or other graphic aids to emphasize important points in the tutorial. Again, even if it is a screen capture, you want to pull the viewers eyes to the part of the screen your talking about, and visual aids are the best way to do that.

  • Record good audio

It is common for tutorials to be recording with a computer’s microphone, with a lot of echo and background noise. Please don’t do that. Record your script clean, with a good microphone, or even better, have a voice-over artist read it.

The bottom line is, you should have video tutorials, and the better you make them, the better they will work for you. That’s it for today, I hope it was helpful
