How To Tailor Your Videos To Increase Engagement And Reach on Social Media

You’re smart, you’re savvy, and you’re plugged into the world of social media. And by now, you’ve probably figured out that plain old text posts aren’t doing the job anymore. The secret sauce? Video content. It’s got clout, and I’m going to show you how to use it to pump up your engagement and reach. This is what we will talk about in this Video Lion. Come with me!

First things first, let’s remember why video content is a big deal. Here’s an impressive stat for you to remember. According to Cisco, in 2022, online videos made up more than 82% of all consumer internet traffic. That’s a whopping 15 times higher than it was in 2017! It’s safe to say; video content isn’t just the future – it’s the now.

Now that I’ve reminded you how important video content is for any business – yes, I know you already know this, but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded, once in a while – let’s get to those tips. So, how do you tailor your video content to increase engagement and reach on social media?

1. Know Your Audience: To put it simply, if you’re selling knitting needles and wool, a skateboarding video might not be the ticket. Tailor your content to your audience. No pun intended.

2. Nail the First Few Seconds: Here’s a scary fact: you’ve got about 3 seconds to grab your viewer’s attention before they start scrolling. Make sure your video starts with a bang!

3. Be Yourself: None of that overly polished, salesy stuff. People get it when you’re being open and sincere, that is where trust is built. Candid behind-the-scenes content, testimonials, and videos showing real faces of the company will do the trick.

4. Utilize Live Video: Jump on the live video bandwagon. Whether it’s Instagram Live, Facebook Live, or LinkedIn Live, these platforms push notifications to followers when you go live. It’s instant engagement, folks.

5. Educational Content: Give your followers some knowledge. You’re the expert in your field, so share that expertise. ‘How-to’ videos or quick tips can go a long way.

6. Captions, Please: The reality? Most social media videos are watched without sound. Add captions so your message doesn’t get lost in silent mode.

7. Call to Action: Don’t just hope they’ll interact with your video. Prompt them! Whether it’s “like and share if you agree,” or “tag a friend who needs to see this,” a call to action is key.

8. Cross-Promote: One and done doesn’t apply here. Share your videos across all your social platforms for maximum reach. And if you don’t remember all the ways in which you can repurpose video, go back and take a look about our special chapter about just that: repurposing video content.

There you have it. Video content isn’t just the trendy thing to do – it’s the thing that gets results. Don’t be afraid to test different video styles, lengths, and tones. As they say, variety is the spice of life. And remember, engagement isn’t just about getting likes and shares; it’s about creating a community. Your brand’s success is about the relationships you build and the value you bring.

That’s it for today. Before you go, don’t forget to give us a like or leave a comment, and, if you haven’t done it yet, subscribe to our channel or podcast to stay informed about everything related to video for business.
